The Set up

I have just got the set-up ready the way I have planned it. It is now set up in the living room on the vide. And everything will be moved in the new studio as soon as it is ready.

Studio core

The core of my studio is an iMac with an I7 processor (quad core 2,8 GHz) and 8GB memory.

It is connected to the Cubase MR816 CSX interface through Firewire.

My DAW is Cubase 5 and I have got the following VSTi's:

Cubase is controlled through the CC121 AI controller, which can control just about anything in Cubase and the plug-ins.

The rough plan

I am going to put a finnish kota in my backyard. Originally it is a travelling cabin used by de Laplandian Sami, like the tipi of the North American Natives. It is octagoon, so it already has an optimal acoustical shape.
The base will be 50 cm below ground level so that the ceiling will be fairly high for the best acoustical possibilities.

There will be a recording room and a control room. With its 17 m2 it is rather small and makes it suitable for small projects, singer-songwriters and small ensembles. It is still big enough to record a drumkit e.g.
The kota will be delivered in june 2010 and I will start digging in May. After the kota is set up, which is relatively easy in approx 2 days, the hardest work will start: the sound insulation. The two rooms have to be acoustically separated and there also may not be any sound coming in from outside. And to keep the peace with my neighbors also vice versa. There will also be some acoustic adapting to get a nice atmosphere.
The setup will be rather simple. I will use an Imac 27" with I7 CPU and 8 Gb internal memory. It will run the latest version of Cubase 5 and I will use the Yamaha mr816csx as an interface and the cc121 as my Cubase remote. I already ordered the setup and it will be delivered in January 2010. Later on I will possibly buy an analogue desk for the mic inputs or some seperate pre-amps, though the inputs of the mr816 are allready very pro.
